We strongly recommend support group attendance for a minimum of three occasions during the first six months after your operation.  In fact, it is not uncommon to find patients who are several years post-operative still attending them.

St. David’s Medical Center and Seton Medical Center both sponsor a monthly support group open to all pre-operative and post-operative weight loss surgery patients.  Groups are lead by a Registered Nurse knowledgeable in weight loss surgery and post-operative recovery.  Meetings focus on sharing, learning, socializing, and just plain having fun.  Hopefully you will leave the meeting feeling supported, educated, enlightened, and eager to return to the next session.

Seton Medical Center holds support group meetings the second Thursday of every month (except on holidays).  Patients that have had any type of weight loss surgery all meet in the same room.  Please call 512-324-3404 for location, current dates and time, and directions.

St. David’s Medical Center holds a support group for Lap Band patients the fourth Thursday of each month and for Gastric Bypass and Duodenal Switch patients on the third Monday of each month (except for holidays).  Please call 512-867-5433 for location, current dates and time, and directions.

There are other ways of obtaining post-operative support that many patients have found to be very valuable.  For example, http://www.obesityhelp.com can be extremely helpful in providing additional insight on how to handle your new body after surgery.

Post-operative support is essential to achieving success. Utilize the resources available to you and enjoy the many benefits it can provide.
